Mesa Verde

Its Regulas birthday today. (Happy Birthday Regula!) Regula is now the happy friend of two Furbies (Thanks Tobi!) ... We spent almost an hour yesterday night (birthday party at 12:03 am) getting one of the two into deep sleep mode, so that it would not wake up in the middle of the night ... Hug Me, Biiig Funnnn ....

From Cortez it was only a short ride to Mesa Verde. A gorgeous place where ancestral puebloans built there homes in the shelter of overhanging cliffs. They did that for only about 80 to 100 years in the 12 hundreds. Then they left for yet unknown reasons. Ancestral Puebloans is a PC term as you might imagine. The Rangers in the park use it because the different Indian nations in the area all claim that these people were their ancestors, so in order to not offend any one by using a term coming from one of the Indians languages, they do now have this "official" name.

By the way if you ever happen to be in the area, make sure you camp on the campground about 4 miles into the park. It is most beautiful. The only minus was their restaurant which only serves pancakes ...
