If you haven't already done so, enable savecore by editing the /etc/init.d/sysetup script. (Make sure you have enough room in /var to save the dump or change the save location to a file system that does have plenty of space.) One can rarely determine the full cause of a panic solely from the contents of the message buffer. Once you have captured a dump, there is a script available called "iscda" (Initial System Crash Dump Analysis) on the SunSolve CD that you can run against the dump. It will provide a lot more information about why the panic is occurring. You made no mention of the architecture of your news server in your post, but that can be a significant factor. Is it a sun4m, sun4d, or sun4u machine? In the mean time, you would also do well to load the VTS (validation test suite) packages from the Updates CD and execute the physical and virtual memory tests to check for failing memory or swap device. -- Apologies for the Anti-SPAM return address.
